The Cake Painting Class

This class is the one to bring out your creative inner artist!  Yes, you can learn to paint on cakes and cupcakes just as in the pictures below.  All the cakes and cupcakes are completely edible. Most students are complete beginners to painting and leave at the end of the class being amazed by the cakes they take home.

What you will learn

This brand new class is exclusive to Pretty Witty Cakes and covers a host of new and fascinating skills including:

  • An understanding of the basics of how to paint on cakes;
  • How to prepare the fondant ready for paining;
  • How to prepare the paint and what to use;
  • Which brushes to use and why;
  • How to properly care for brushes;
  • How to achieve the correct consistency in paint and work with different consistencies (all edible);
  • The process of applying the paint to the cake – what works and what doesn’t;
  • How to layout a design on the cake;
  • How to correct any mistakes;
  • What reference to use and how to transpose their chosen image into a painted design.

During the class, you will also learn first-hand lots of painting tips and techniques that will help give movement and depth to the design.  You will master the following during the day:

  • How to paint on cupcake toppers;
  • How to paint on a big cake (you will work on a dummy cake so you keep it forever!);
  • How to paint dog roses focusing on the centres and how that gives the painting depth;
  • How to paint daisies and how to paint with super white;
  • How to paint rose buds;
  • How to paint little berries;
  • How to paint leaves and why they are an important feature;
  • How to paint stems; and
  • How to plan the overall design of the cake.

The class will give you the confidence to incorporate painting as part of your cake designs and also to create painted cakes. Students are welcome to paint any different flowers if they want to experiment.

During the day, you will be given advice on how to progress after the class and on any particular style that may really suit your natural style.  Students do not have to take home an exact copy of the demo cake (although you can if you wish to) as the purpose of the classes is to find your own ‘hand’, one which you are comfortable with and which suits your style.

Like all our classes, this class is all about working hands on. You won’t be watching someone else doing something – you will do everything yourself.

Testimonials from prior students

To see what others have said about Pretty Witty Cakes’ courses, see here .

Specifically Natasha’s past student’s have said:

Amazing, inspiring and brilliant! Natasha was extremely helpful and a very good tutor advising and demonstrating skills as well as constantly giving each pupil her one on one attention to make sure they were comfortable with the new skills they were learning .”

I can’t recommend Natasha’s course highly enough. She is a wonderful tutor, really puts you at your ease and is very generous with her knowledge. Despite having never really painted before, I learned skills that I’ve had the confidence to use professionally .”

Having never painted before, let alone having painted on a cake, Natasha completely de-mystified the process for me in a cheery and calm manner.  The class was relaxed and informal and we all had plenty of time with Natasha to ask questions.  I was amazed by the results she coaxed from us all.  Best of all, since being on the course, I’ve been able to adept the technique to lots of different designs.  I thoroughly recommend !”

Take Home Fact Pack

You will be given a fact sheet describing the techniques you learnt during the day so you can refresh your mind next time you bake.  Of course, there are also lots of tips on our Facebook page .

We supply lots of tea and coffee throughout the day and you can take breaks whenever you wish. We have a lovely garden and if the weather is good you can lunch in the garden amongst the flowers (although we often find people so engrossed in their cake decorating making that they continue right through their lunch!).
