Overview

In this Project, Pretty Witty Cakes' tutor Nivia Akily shows you how to make a double barrelled cake in a stunning Boutique design.

This Project shows the construction of such a cake and most importantly how to cover such a tall cake in fondant without it tearing at all. This videos cover everything you need to know about perfecting this kind of cake right the way to tiny detailing on a design. Once you have mastered these skills, you will be able to tackle more difficult cake structures.

What you will learn

This Project is all about double barrelled designs. You will learn:

Hi Nivia. How tall are your cakes when you cake them? Do you bake them in a 6'x4' round or a 6'x3' round pan? To get two 1' cakes. Thanks.

They are usually 2.5" deep. Either tins would work fine. Then I split each cake into two slices of 1" deep each. Nivia x

OK Nivia. So after your done putting this beautiful cake together without the decorations, just the fondant. How tall will this cake be? like 7's tall? And how many guest will it feed. I'm making a Alice in wonderland cake and I want to make a double barreled cake with a 4' maddest hat cake on top and a 8'X3' cake on the bottom of the 6' cake. I need to feed at lease 40 guest. The hat is for the birthday girl, so it does not count for serving. What would you suggest? Thank you in advance. Going to make this cake for my daughter on mother days.

Hi Grisel, the cake I made will feed around 24 people as it is two 6" cakes stacked together as one. So if you do a 6" double barrel and a 8" normal size cake, that would give approximately 50 servings. If you do the cake, please do share it on our forum, I would love to see it :)

Hi there, the acrylic boards may become available at the pritty witty shop, I would recommend you to ask Suzi. Another place you could get them from is ebay but I would recommend you to buy spare parts of an acrylic cake stand as that is what I am using. Hi Nivia
Made this cake for a wedding anniversary and had fun making it. The only thing I did different was made the stripes out of floral paste as did not get on with painting. the doctor and his wife who I made for loved it - just about to upload some photos.
