This class is all about modelling edible PEOPLE! In September 2012, the amazing Grace Stevens from “Cupcakes by Design” will be flying over all the way from South Africa to teach at Pretty Witty Cakes. Grace will be teaching three classes including the Family Picnic People Modelling class – a class Grace has designed EXCLUSIVELY for Pretty Witty Cakes.

What you will learn in the Family Picnic Class

In this class you will learn how to model people from fondant.  From tiny baby playing to children to mum and dad, you will learn all the tricks of the trade and secrets which will enable you to make all the family.  During the class, Grace will show you:

• What materials to use when modelling people.
• How to ensure your people are in proportion to each other.
• How to model a mum, dad, boy, girl and baby.
• How to model figures in sitting, lying, kneeling (on one knee) and playing positions.
• How to model a baby lying on her back.
• How to “clothe” your figures.
• How to make hair in all different styles including pig tails, short curly hair, pony tails and the tricks behind female and male hair.
• How to create a woven picnic basket.
• How to create a toy bear, book and picnic blanket.
• How to adapt what you learn to other figures.

This is a great opportunity to learn unique techniques from one of South Africa’s most talented sugar artists!  You will leave the course with the entire family picnic scene which you could keep for reference forever, use on a cake or eat!

Your Tutor

Grace Stevens (see Tutors page) is one of South Africa’s best known and talented sugar artists and a fabulous teacher.  Her style is recognised worldwide for the unique characteristics her people have.  As an experienced tutor (travelling around South Africa to teach), Grace knows all the tricks and tips about character modelling which she will share in detail throughout the day.

Level

This class is suitable for high level beginners or intermediate level cake makers.  You do not need to have any experience in modelling people  but you should have, for example, used sugar paste to cover a cake before and understand what sugar paste is.  If you have never worked with sugar paste before, we would suggest you attend our Novelty Basics Cupcake Class or the Enchanted Fairy Garden Cupcake Class.

Course Date and Times

The Family Picnic People Modelling Class is a two day course which will take place on as follows:

• Saturday 15^th September 2012: 10.15 to 4.30pm
• Sunday 16^th September 2012: 10.15 to 4.30pm

This class will only run once and there are only a limited number of places available so don’t miss out.

Equipment

For this class, we provide EVERYTHING you need!  The only price you pay is the price to book your place.  You will take everything you make home with you.

All you will need to bring is:

• an apron
• a packed lunch
• a sturdy box in order to take your work home.  Your work will be  on a 20cm (8 inch) inch square base.

Pretty Witty Cakes never surprise you with hidden costs unlike other venues so you will not be sent any equipment list before the class.  The only things you need to bring are those things listed above.  We will provide EVERYTHING else for you.

Price: £295 per person for the entire course (includes VAT where applicable)

Times: 10.15 to 4.30pm

Dates:  Saturday 15^th and Sunday 16^th September 2012

Travel: We can assist with all travel arrangements including advising on trains and flights, pick up from the airport or train station.  For those coming by car, we have ample private and enclosed parking at the house.
